Within Iron Age enclosures the archaeologist sometimes finds pits, ditches, banks and stake and post holes. Some of these features will make recognisable patterns, whilst others have no discernable purpose at all. The below ground evidence is interpreted by the excavator to make hypothetical guesses as to the structure and function of such evidence. Over the years of Peter's Reynolds work, many of these hypotheses have been put to the test at the various sites and outstations where he worked.
