Project Consultant : Christine Shaw
Before, one might almost say long before, the Butser Project was conceived and brought into being, Peter Reynolds had already developed an interest in Archaeological Experiment [the term Experimental Archaeology was not strictly current in the 1960's]. It was, in fact, because of his work illustrated here that he was invited to be Director of BAF Project.
This historic pamphlet, that may be the only copy remaining, shows how much the Project owed to the work he had already carried out. Some of the work, such as ploughing with ards had been done under his tutelage by members of the Shrewsbury School rugby XV!
How much the Project owed to the work embodied can be seen in the BAFDA pamphlet of 1976.
Dr Peter Reynolds wrote the pamphlet copied below. Note that it is from 1969 should any deficiencies in readability exist. The only known copy was found in his files quite recently and is reproduced here for purposes of record and research.
