Project Consultant : Christine Shaw
In 1977 the BBC conceived a project whereby modern day volunteers would try to live in a manner representative of the Iron Age in Britain. Dr Peter Reynolds and his Assistant Director from the Butser Ancient Farm Project were invited to teach the volunteer participants as much as was known about such matters but on a very short timescale. He also provided all the necessary materials, stretching to an itemised list over three pages of foolscap.
Subsequently, in 1979, the BBC working with the then Cheddar Gorge Museum and their Consultants, Archaeological Advisers Limited, devised an exhibition based on the programme set-up.
Dr Peter Reynolds wrote the explanatory pamphlet for that exhibition. The only known copy was found in his files quite recently and is reproduced here for purposes of record and research.
